The Effect of Yoga Training On Stress and Self-Esteem abstract
Background: The purpose of this research was to study the effect of eight-week yoga training on stress and self-esteem. Materials and methods: In this experimental study, demographic questionnaire, DASS-21 inventory, Rozenberg self-esteem inventory as three instruments were used. 277 Azad university students were chosen with non-randomized way, then 52 persons after matching, were randomly assigned into an experimental and a control group. The experimental group participated in twice weekly yoga classes of 60 minute about two months. Both groups were evaluated again after the two-month study period. The data were analyzed using descriptive (Mean & SD) and inferential (independent t-test, Pearson) statically methods Results and discussions: The results revealed significant reduction in stress and significant increase in self-esteem. Yoga had positive effect on stress and self-esteem. Conclusion: It is suggested that yoga as a public, effective and suitable sport can lead to positive mental and physical health
