Abstract:
Numerical simulation of fluid flow in stirred tanks is gaining great practical importance in chemical engineering. Such simulations face many challenges to account for moving walls or blades, multiphase and multi-component turbulent flows and flows involving suspended particles. In this paper we report on the progresses made to develop a Lattice Boltzmann flow solver to simulate complicated flows in stirred tanks. In particular, the development of a LB model to simulate fluid flows in the presence of moving walls is reported here. Several benchmark problems have been conducted to demonstrate the capabilities of the present model. It is shown that the Lattice Boltzmann model is a powerful method to simulate fluid flows in the presence of moving walls and can be extended to simulate complicated flows in stirred tanks.
