Root and Epistemic Modality in English Translation Of 10-15 parts in the holy Quran

Modalities in the Holy Quran is one of the Linguistic phenomena in the Holy book Quran which needed to be chosen and given more consideration. This present study was an attempt to exploring the nine types of modal verbs and to find the intentions of each type of modal verbs in saffarzadeh‟s (2001).English translation of the Holy Quran in the verses of 10-15 parts. The design of the study was a descriptive analytical research and tools which were used for data collection were on the base of sampling and using tables. The researcher analyzed the verses containing modal verbs. According to the data findings, root modality were used more frequently than epistemic modality in the verses of 10-15 parts. Also, the researcher found that 51.2% of the intention of root modality has been done with strong probability about the punishment of the Hell and the reward of the Heaven. The present study has implication For applied linguistic professors and students who are interested in Quranic discourse.
