Recrystallization of WE43 magnesium alloy processed via cyclic expansion extrusion (CEE) abstract
In this paper, cyclic expansion extrusion (CEE) asa relatively new severe plastic deformation (SPD) process isapplied to a rare earth (RE) containing Mg alloy WE43 and theeffects of processing temperature and the number of passes areinvestigated. Results showed that dynamic recrystallization (DRX)occurred after CEE processing at 400 °C and a bimodal structure withultrafine DRXed grains surrounded the unrecrystallized grains. However, at 330 °C, DRX was retarded due to the existence of rareearth elements. It was concluded that increasing the processingpasses could increase volume fraction of the recrystallizedgrains. Also increasing the temperature results in an increase inelongation.
