Benign metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland, report a case abstract

Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign parotid gland tumor & is typicallycured by complete excision. Local recurrence after surgical excision & malignanttransformation has been described in 1-5 % & 2-9% of cases respectively. Metastasizing pawithout histologic evidences of malignancy have rarely been reported. Hereby we report acase of PA of the parotid gland, metastasizing to the cervical lymph node (coincidentally) in a78-year-old Man come to Imam Khomeini hospital, Ahwaz. Histologic examinationconfirmed the diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma with no histologic characteristic ofmalignancy in either specimen. Conclusion: Benign metastasizing mixed tumor is a rare entity. It remains to be determinedwhether these benign metastasizing PA are really low grade salivary malignancies.
