Abstract:

Background:Cell proliferation and new blood vessels formation are critical factors in metastasis and prognosis of malignant tumors. The relation between metastasis and prognosis with gender and age is not elucidated. Aim: The aim was to study the relation between the vascular formation and cellular proliferation with gender and age in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma(OSCC). Materials and Methods:The study was retrospective.24 paraffin-embedded samples of well differentiated OSCC was detected immunohistochemically for Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and Ki67 expression. The Labelling Index(LI:positive epithelial cells/1000 epithelial cells) of VEGF and Ki67 positive cells were obtained. The correlation between VEGF and Ki67 expression with gender and age was determined . The linear regression and spearman tests were used for statistical analyzing. Results:The correlation between VEGF expression with gender and age was not significant(p=0.67 and p=0.88,respectively).The correlation between Ki67 expression with gender and age was not significant (p=0.43 and p=0.88,respectively). Conclusion:Blood vessels formation and cell proliferation are not related to gender and age in OSCC.
