Abstract:
Introduction and Objective: Bladder cancer is the second most common urogenital cancer. Immunohistochemical method including tumor marker expression is one of the diagnostic methods in assessment of Bladder carcinoma .Therefore, this study was done aimed to investigate the expression of cytokeratin 7 in Bladder carcinoma and its association with tumor histological grading. Materials and Methods: Biopsies blocks of 65 patient who underwent surgery for Bladder carcinoma from 2006 to 2012 in Mostafa Khomeini Hospital were collected and reviewed. Samples was stained by cytokeratin 7 specific antibodies. Samples was studied by light microscopy and cytokeratin 7 positive and negative cases and grading were determined. Results: The average age of patients was 66.83±6.88 years. 29 patients (72.5%) were positive for cytokeratin 7. There was no relation between cytokeratin 7 expression with tumor grade, tumor size and age of the patient. Conclusion : Cytokeratin 7 expression has a high prevalence in patients with Bladder carcinoma. The result of our study is similar to other studies showed positive cytokeratin 7 sample in urothelial carcinoma of bladder. But despite to other studiesthere were not significant correlation between Cytokeratin 7 expression and tumor grade, tumor size and age of the patient.
