Abstract:

Higher amounts of energy dissipated during drilling the wells are the everlasting problems encountered the petroleum industries. Hence, several studies are carried out to reduce the concerning about the energy spent in the management of the wastes produced from drilling fluids. In this work, Nano- based drilling fluids were prepared by adding the silver nanoparticles in the aqueous portion of drilling fluids as base fluids, which are then used as an additive in the water-base muds (WBMs). The enhancement in the rheological properties of Nano-based drilling fluids are studied. It is observed that silver Nanoparticles increased the rheological properties of drilling fluids, such as plastic viscosity, yield point and apparent viscosity, but it decreased the gel strength at 10 second and 10 minutes. Furthermore, the results are indicated that the yield point and gel strengths increased by increasing the temperature, but plastic and apparent viscosity showed a different behavior, and in some cases, rheological behavior was more complex. These observations proved that the used additive could decrease the bentonite content of drilling fluids, and subsequently, reduce the amount of energy required to recycle the waste materials on the surface
