Abstract:
Nanostructure TiO2-SiO2 binary mixed oxide and Titania-Silica-Polyacrylonitrile composite were synthesized. The resulting sorbents were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), nitrogen gas adsorption studies and infrared spectroscopy (IR). XRD and BET surface area experimental results revealed that Titania Silica binary oxide crystallized in anatase and brookite phases and had a BET surface area of 405.3 m2/g. The sorption process for removal of arsenic and lead was assessed with various parameters including the effect of pH, contact time and diverse ions. All the results validated the feasibility of TiO2-SiO2 and TiO2- SiO2-PAN for highly effective removal of arsenic and lead from contaminated waters.
