Abstract:

Using audio visual aids (AVA) has always been a matter of importance in EFL classrooms. It is clear that a resourceful English language teacher ought to be equipped with well thought-out material and relevant AVAs to make students (Ss) understood better and easier. One significance of this matter is to have students more motivated and inspired to improve and catalyze the process of learning. To this end, including learners in making AVAs under teacher s supervision can improve their learning in all steps. This aims to help the class be as student-centered as possible. In this study, we gave 18 Pre-Intermediate female Iranian students (aged between 15-50) the opportunity of being a part of making AVAs to teach lexis in a 90-minute workshop session (Bromberg, M., & Liebb, J. (2012). 504 absolutely essential words. Simon and Schuster). This matter was evaluated in 2 different parts; one with the teacher in charge of making AVAs and the other with students making AVAs with a number of adjectives given to them and required material such as cards, markers etc. to make each other understood on their own, based on their own logic and creativity to teach the lexis. The students were supposed to take a questionnaire (Christine Doe, 2004 & Jutarat Vibulphol, 2016) after each part and it evaluated the level of eagerness and motivation in them to show how they felt. The classroom atmosphere was led to a situation where students learned and felt more involved, motivated and enthusiastic as in a normal classroom
