World Literature and Supersaturation with the Market: Perspectives and Solutions

The contemporary capitalist economy with its focalization on globalization more than ever hasnegated culture and instead have focused on the market and the circulation of goods. A number ofresearcher have recurrently recalled us that literature is also part of this world market with itsspecifically economic orientation. This paper will provide a brief view of different ways ofinstituting world literature, in consideration that world literature incorporates to the reiteration orprovides an undermining of ideological underpinnings. More significantly, the main focus rests onthe kind of readings of world literature that has been offered by scholars of the field in order toevade obscuration and perpetuation of inequalities. Informed by the politics of untranslatability andDerrida s Mondialisation, I argue that in taking this necessary step to understand the relationsbetween literature and the market, we can arrive at ways in which World Literature can withdrawfrom supersaturation induced by the commands of the market. Through a comparative discrepancybetween mondialisation and globalization, constructive solutions can be offered in the creating thepotentialities of World making.
