Investigating the causes of heavy corrosion in associated piping of Desuperheater Contact Condenser in a SRU unit in an Iranian gas refinery plant

The Process Water piping associated with the Desuperheater Contact Condenser found to have significant corrosion and even leakage in some locations. As a result, the vessel was opened for internal inspection, sample was collected for chemical analysis and NDT was performed for damage evaluation. The findings revealed that sulfuric acid was formed in the vessel and the neutralization process, using NaOH, could not address this issue properly.
