Regenerative medicine in heart failure

Heart failure is a progressive and debilitating syndrome and one of the major causes of mortality worldwide .The prevalence of heart failure is increasing and despite advances in medical therapies many patients progress into refractory condition and end organ damage.Recent approved treatments for advanced refractory heart failure are assist device implantation or cardiac transplantation .However, besides the limitations, these treatments may not be available for many patients.The aims of regenerative therapies in heart failure as an innovative treatment are to change the disease course, slowing down the end organ damage and delay transplantation or assist device implantation.Nowadays, utilization of regenerative therapies for chronic heart failure is challenged by controversial results obtained from clinical trials .However, regenerative scientists are beginning to design new approaches in this field. Here, the talkwill be about recent advances in different aspects of heart failure regenerative therapies including stem cell biology, the application of genome editing and tissue engineering, therapy with combinations of cells, methods for cell delivery and the role of bioengineers in development of devices and imaging technologies in this field.
