Abstract:
2-Thioxoimidazolidine-4-ones are five-membered aromatic heterocycles containing carbonyl, thiocarbonyl and nitrogen atoms. This ring system is found in variety of naturally occurringcompounds and biologically active molecules. They are especially useful in medicine, sincemany antifungal drugs belong to the thiohydantoins class [1]. Various methods were developedfor synthesizing these derivatives [2]. In this study, thiohydantoins were prepared via asolvent-free and microwave irradiation with nanocatalysts procedure. The best nanocatalystwere MCM-41-SnSi4, MCM-41-CeSi3, MCM-41-CeSi4.A convenient, environmentally friendly and mild green synthesis of thiohydantoin derivativeswas developed by the one-pot reaction of benzils, urea or thiourea derivatives, and nano catalystsat grinding condition. The key advantages are the short reaction times, good yields, simpleworkup, and easy purification in the solvent-free condition.
