Abstract:
Dithiocarbazinate derivatives are key intermediates in the synthesis of a wide variety of biologicallyactive heterocyclic compounds. In addition, they were applied as ligands in for complexformation with transition metals. For example, dithiocarbazinate provides intermediates for theproduction of novel 1,2,4-triazole derivatives as potential anticancer, antioxidants, antibacterialand antifungal agents [1-3]. The resistance of bacteria and fungi to antibiotics is still increasingand can be a serious threat to human health in the future. New antimicrobial agents must be designedand identified to confront these pathogens. In this research project, different alkyl or arylhydrazides were reacted with carbon disulfide in the presence of potassium hydroxide in absoluteethanol to afford dithiocarbazinate compounds (Fig. 1). The molecular structurs of all synthesizedcompounds were characterized with IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectra. Inhibitory activitiesof synthetic compounds were assessed on some pathogenic bacteria and fungi. The resultswere reported as MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration), MBC (Minimum Bactericidal Concentration)and MFC (Minimum Fungicidal Concentration) values. The result of this studyshowed that dithiocarbazinate compounds are potential antibacterial andantifungal agents due totheir significant inhibitory effects.
