Thermodynamic and economic analysis of a tri-generation system (power, cooling, and heat) using the combination of the solar organic Rankine cycle and the VCC cycle

The concept of cogeneration includes a bunch of new technologies in which the goal is to combine power generation with the use of renewable energy that can be retrieved from the process simultaneously to meet the heating and cooling needs. These types of systems are divided into two types of CHP (combination of heating and power) and CCHP (heating, cooling, and power), in the manner used to convert energy. Regarding the limited efficiency of conventional power generation systems, the reuse of waste heat instead of entering it into the environment can have a significant effect on increasing the efficiency of power generation systems. This feature of multiple generation systems is increasingly being taken into consideration when the demand for energy at the global level is constantly increasing, and according to researchers, between 2006 and 2030, forty percent of world demand for energy consumption Nose. In addition, the issue of global warming and the issue of controlling greenhouse gases is another important factor for such systems. In the study, the dual power generation and cooling system was investigated using an ORC cycle and a VCC cycle. In this system, the ORC and VCC cycles are performed in parallel with power generation and cooling. Initially, the thermodynamic simulation of the system is performed for four different working fluids in the EES software programming environment. The thermodynamic efficiency is calculated for different states and the effect of some thermodynamic parameters on system performance is obtained for optimal values. All of these are examined for the two basic operation modes and the ORC-VCC functionality of the system. The results indicate that with the conversion of the system from base to ORC-VCC mode, thermal efficiency has increased by more than 100 percent.
