Abstract:
Background and Aim: Contrary the conventional thinking, the idea of using a blood substitute instead of human blood transfusing in patients is started from 17th century, so it’s not a new method. Artificial blood is a product made to act as a substitute for red blood cells. While true blood serves many different functions, artificial blood is designed for the sole purpose of transporting oxygen and carbon dioxide throughout the body. As with any medical prod ucts, the number of side effects have been associated with the use of these artificial blood. In this article we explain the side effects of these two substrates in different transfusion of .blood cases Materials and Methods: Depending on the type of artificial blood, it can be produced in different ways using synthetic production, chemical isolation or recombinant biochemical technolo gy. AOC which means Artificial oxygen carriers is used to bond the oxygen to hemoglobin for producing HBOC hemoglobin based oxygen carriers or PFC perfluorocarbon emulsions .that is a physical dissolution of oxygen in the blood plasma Results: Some studies shows that HBOC can cause systemic vasoconstriction by scavenging NO which Inhaled nitric oxide enables artificial blood transfusion without hypertension. PFC can cause cutaneous flushing and fever at lower doses, and macrophage hypertrophy and .recruitment at higher doses Conclusion: In the future of medicine, there is an increasing demand for using of artificial blood as teaching and training projects. As soon as possible, new materials to carry oxygen in the body will be found that won’t have any side effects & reactions. Additionally, longer lasting products and products that perform the other functions of blood should be devel.oped
