Abstract:

This study is a review search and has been developed, with word dust storm in databases Google scholar, Magiran, SID, Sciencedirect. Total number of articles in these sites, articles related to dust storms in southwest Asia and Iran were used. MODIS satellite images taken in this study. Mean annual duststorm frequencies are mapped for south-west Asia (Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India) showing areas of greatest activity in two regions: an area at the convergence of the borders of Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan that comprises the Seistan Basin, Registan and north-western Baluchistan; and the plains of Afghan Turkestan. Dust storms occur principally during the dry season months of spring and summer. Dust is transported from the region north to Asian states of the U.S.S.R., south over the Arabian Sea and east over south-east Asia. The main causes of the dust events especially over the western parts of Iran can be atmospheric instability in the deserts of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and Syria, successive and intensive droughts along with the lack of vegetation cover. The dust storm control methods: Agronomic Measures, Soil Management, Mechanical Methods, Miscellaneous Methods to Reduce Dust Emissions can be noted.
