Abstract:
Ordered mesoporous silicas were first reported in 1992[1]. Mesoporous silica supported Cu and Ce nanoparticles have been investigated for hydrogen production from methanol steam reforming[2]. Three-dimensional KIT-6 possessing interconnected mesopores offers superior metal dispersion[3]. Ethylene glycol (EG) assisted impregnation of copper catalyst on KIT-6 (CeO2-Cu/KIT-6 (EG)) was performed and applied for steam reforming of methanol. The catalyst was characterized by XRD, BET and TEM. It is found that smaller copper particles were well dispersed on KIT-6 and better catalytic activity was shown for the CeO2-Cu/KIT-6 (EG) when compared with the catalyst of CeOR2R-Cu/KIT-6 prepared by using the conventional impregnation method. Thebest catalytic performance was about 94.01% methanol conversion, 95.92% H2 selectivity at 300 °C.
