Abstract:

‭The genus of Pimpine/la from Umbelliferae family presents 23 species which are found wild in different regions of Iran. The aim of this study was detennining of the quantity and quality of essential oils from different plant parts of four Iranian Pimpine/la species, P. deverroides, P. khorasanica. P. Khayamiiand P. anisactis in different growth stages. The aerial parts of Pimpinella species were collected from Khorasan and Lorestan provinces in different stages of growth. Essential oils were isolated by hydro-distillation from the stems plus the leaves, inflorescence, seed individually and were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The yields of the stems plus the leaves, inflorescence and seed oils of P. deveroides, P. khayyami and P. Khorrasanica were between 0.6% and 7.5% w/w, 0.0%-1.9% and 0.4%-4.0% respectively. The yields of the stems plus the leaves were less than yields of inflorescence and seed oils. 18, 17 and 11 constituents were identified in the stems plus the leaves, inflorescence and seed oils of P. deveroides. Pregeijerene (39.7%, 51.6% and 66.9%) was the major constituent. Geijerene and Germacrene B were the other major constituents in the P. deveroides oils. In the stems plus the leaves, inflorescence and seed oils of P. khayyami 18, 19 and 13 constituents were identified respectively. Major compounds were Pregeijerene, Z-P‬ص‭famesene, E-p-famesene and a-copaene. 13, 10 and 10 constituents were identified in the stems plus the leaves, inflorescence and seed oils of P. khorrasanica. E-p-famesene (48.6%, 55.3% and 54.1 %) was the major constituent. The other major constituents in the P. khayyami oils were Ar-curcumene, foniculine and a-zingiberen. According to this study P. deveroides is important for the highest quantity oil in seed and the best quality of all oils. KEY WORDS: Umbelliferae, Pimpine/la, P. deverroides, P. khorasanica, P.
