Abstract:

The main focus of the present study was to examine the problems of Iranian bilinguallearners (native speakers of Kurdish and Persian) in reading comprehension at primaryschools. The study was carried out with a total of 85 learners in Kermanshah province.They were studying in the primary second grade in the 2019-2020 academic year. Moreever, 10 class teachers working in the primary schools took part in the study to identifytheir views and suggestions due to the primary bilingual student's difficulties in readingcomprehension. The main instruments were reading comprehension test to examine thereading comprehension difficulties of students and an interview form to determine theviews and suggestion of teachers. After administering the test, the student's performanceon reading tests were examined and contrasted on standardized reading accepted inPersian. The findings indicated that the difficulties of students in reading were due topronunciation (stress and intonation patterns), structure system (grammar), and vocabulary.More ever, the findings indicated that the most of teachers were of the idea that primarybilingual learner's difficulties with reading comprehension. They had some suggestions tosolve this problems such as modifying the course book reading texts appropriate to thelevel of bilingual learners, designing efficient plan of reading teaching for bilingualstudents in the classroom and providing pre-school training in the bilingual learners mothertongue.
