Abstract:

Purpose: The researcher aimed to investigate the relationship between motivational strategies and professional identity.Methodology: To achieve this goal, based on Krejcie and Morgan (1970), 354 Iranian EFL teachers participated in this study. The main instruments used in this study include two questionnaires: teachers’ professional identity scale and motivational strategies questionnaire. After gathering the data, SPSS analysis was used to answer research question, “RQ: Is there a significant relationship between Iranian EFL teachers’ professional identity and their motivational strategies?”, Pearson correlation was conducted.Findings: the result showed that teachers’ professional identity correlated positively and significantly with all sub-constructs of motivational strategies except three strategies (Personal Relevance, Rapport, and Usefulness). Among 16 strategies, Interest has the highest correlation with teachers’ professional identity and Personal Relevance has the lowest correlation with teachers’ professional identity.Therefore, the first null hypothesis was rejected.
