Abstract:

Schiff bases are important class of ligands under coordination chemistry capable of exhibiting pharmacological as well as physiological activities. The term Schiff base is normally applied to these compounds when they are being used as ligands to form coordination complexes with metal ions. Schiff bases have been produced by the condensation of substituted salicylaldehyde and amino acid namely alanine under microwave irradiation condition. Thus derived ligand and its relative copper metal complex were characterized by UV-Visible and FT-IR analysis. Based on the results of spectral analysis the structures of the ligand and the complex were deduced. The purity of the products were examined through Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC).
