Abstract:

Caseous lymphadenitis is a widespread disease, which has been noticed in most sheep farming countries, causing important economic losses. This disease produces emaciation and weakness in the animals and has to be considered in the deferential diagnosis of the so-called ‘’thin ewe syndrome”, especially when sheep are affected by the visceral presentation of the disease. The present study analysed the prevalence of the disease in some imported sheep breeds in Iran. A total of ۷۹۴ sheep of different breeds at abattoir, were evaluated and cultured in conventional media. Parotid and mandibular lymph nodes were more affected and Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis as well as trueperella pyogenes were highest in culture. Although, CLA in Iranian sheep flocks is an endemic disease but, care must be taken to prevent import diseases fromother countries.
