Abstract:
In this study, various organosilane-treated nano-silica particles were dispersed in a 2-pack polyurethane coating. The influence of variously modified SiO2 nanoparticles on the optical properties of the resultant nanocoatings was investigated. For this purpose, turbidity of liquid nanocoatings, transparency of solid films, and coatings’ gloss were extensively examined. Also, surface morphology of nanocoatings was studied utilizing an atomic force microscope (AFM). The results revealed that surface modification of nano-silica particles affects the morphology of the coatings .The incorporation of some long-length hydrocarbon modified nano-silica particles into the organic coating greatly improved the interfacial interactions at the polymer/filler interfaces causing better dispersion .Also, incorporation of the same loadings of nano-silicas with different treatment have a significant effects on gloss retention and optical properties of resultant nano-coatings
