Abstract:
Crude oil is a complex mixture of hydrocarbons that has adverse effects in aquatic organism and human health if entering aquatic environment and human food chain. Considering the high volume of oil enters to environment and its harmful effects on human health, use of effective methods for treatment of contaminated water is inevitable. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of ozonation and activated carbon process, separately and together, for reducing TOC and toxicity of water soluble crude oil in rain bow trout larva. Results show that with increasing ozone and activated carbon, significant decreases were obtained in the toxicity of samples compared to the TOC of them. LC50, 98 h and TOC of sample before ozonation process was 60 and 54.98 mg/l and after ozonation with 1 and 10 mg/l, LC50, 98 h was increased 113.3 and 205.5 mg/l and TOC was received the 42.8 and 205.5 mg/l. LC50 96 h for samples after add of different concentration of PAC was, 94.8, 106.6, 117.8, 138.3 and 181.5 mg/l. Ozonation of sample prior the activated carbon, increasing the adsorption of them and better result for decreasing the TOC and toxicity attained.
