Abstract:

Global population growth has expanded concerns regarding the preservation of our ecological systems. Nowadays, a large number of non-biodegradable synthetic polymers produced from petrochemical are accounted as the main sources of environmental pollutio and, harming wildlife when disposed in nature.Different methods have been developed in order to create biodegradable polymers from the traditional ones with optimized mechanical and thermal properties. Physical blending is a favorable route to prepare biodegradable materials with different morphologies and physical characteristics. Usage of biodegradable additives or fillers with natural origin is a hot research area these days and among them biodegradable polymer compositions containing polysaccharides, starch, cellulose, chitin, chitosan, and others as a filler have increased the application of these polymers in novel fields such as tissue engineering and drug delivery systems.In this study, different efficient methods for fabricating biodegradable polyvinyl chloride (PVC) composites, rated as the second highest consumed polymer have been reviewed.
