Abstract:
Common bus DC voltage in hybrid AC/DC microgridbecomes easily vulnerable to power changes due to the low inertiaof the microgrid. For example, the common bus voltage changessuddenly under load change condition, which can cause systeminstability. Virtual inertia control (VIC) is an appropriate and lowcostmethod to improve and support the inertia characteristics ofmicrogrids. This study proposes a strategy based on virtual inertiaand damping control integrated with the 𝑷 − 𝑽𝟐 droop control forbidirectional DC/DC energy storage converter which is a crucialpart in the microgrid beside renewable energy sources such aswind and solar energies. Simulations implemented inMATLAB/SIMULINK environment, confirm the performance ofproposed control strategy compared to the 𝑷 − 𝑽𝟐 droop control.By applying the proposed method, the microgrid inertia isincreased, and the common bus voltage changes slowly with softtransient behavior. Moreover, current sharing between energystorage systems (ESSs) is performed accurately.
