Abstract:

One of the main problems with line No. ۷ of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Tehran, whichconnects Tajrish Square to Rahahan Square, is the long wait for travelers. This paperproposes a solution to this issue by predicting the time of arrival of buses to each stationusing a regression model. By modifying schedules based on these predictions, the waitingtime for passengers can be reduced. The regression model estimates the travel time of busesby taking into account several variables that affect travel time in each segment. Thesevariables include arrival times of buses, segment length, separate segments from other trafficcomponents, and boarding time. By using the duration of their trips, the time of arrival ofbuses at each station can be estimated. The proposed regression model is capable ofpredicting ۷۳.۶% of bus travel time changes, which is a satisfactory result. By reducingwaiting times for passengers, this model has the potential to improve the efficiency of lineNo. ۷ of the BRT in Tehran.
