Abstract:
Background: Consuming healthy snack during adolescence is very important due to maturity and formation of nutrition and lifestyle in this period. The purpose of this study is to specify the determinants of healthy snack consumption in adolescents aged ۱۱-۱۵ years old based on Pender Health Promotion Model.Materials and Method: In this cross-sectional analytical-descriptive study, ۳۸۹ male and female students in Zavareh schools aged ۱۱-۱۵ years old were selected by simple random sampling method during ۲۰۱۷-۲۰۱۸. The data were collected through the demographic information form, behavior checklist and researcher-made questionnaire about constructs of Pender Health Promotion Model. The data were analyzed by software SPSS version ۲۲ and chi-square test, t-test, Exact Fisher test, and confirmatory factor analysis. Results: ۹۴.۹% of the students consumed snacks during the day and ۸۱.۷% of these students tried to eat healthy snacks. Among the constructs of Pender Health Promotion Model, healthy snack consumption behavior was only significantly correlated with constructs of perceived benefit, perceived self-care, and competing demands and preferences. Conclusion: For planning promotional interventions for healthy snack consumption for these students, it is better to emphasize the constructs of perceived benefits, perceived self-care, and competing demands and preferences.
