Abstract:

The kinetics of the main reaction and catalyst deactivation in propane dehydrogenation over Pt- Sn/Al2O3 catalyst was studied. The reaction test runs were performed in a fixed-bed quartz reactor.Based on a power law rate expression for the surface reaction kinetics and independent deactivation kinetics, the data of the integral reactor were analyzed both by integral and a noveldifferential method of analysis and the results were compared. Both methods showed fair fits ofexperimental data to the kinetic model and the results were found to be consistent. The proposedapproach was also capable of giving activation energy from temperature-dependent conversions. An activation energy of 71 kJ/mol was obtained for dehydrogenation of propane over Pt-Sn/Al2O3catalyst. The advantage of the proposed approach is that there is no need to integrate rate expression which otherwise could be complicated or impossible
