Abstract:

The coexistence of symptoms and common symptoms of bipolar disorder type ۱ and schizophrenia has been a subject of debate in the field of mental health. This narrative review aims to compare the degree of coexistence of symptoms and common symptoms between bipolar disorder type ۱ and schizophrenia. The review analysed studies from various sources, including peer-reviewed journals, books, and online databases, published between ۲۰۰۰ and ۲۰۲۱. The findings suggest that both disorders have some overlap in terms of symptoms, with significant differences in symptom patterns and duration, type of delusions, and severity of mood changes. The review concludes that further research in this field is necessary to identify the underlying mechanisms that may cause these similarities and differences in symptom presentation between bipolar disorder type ۱ and schizophrenia.
