On the Relationship between Iranian EFL Teachers’ Burnout, Motivation and Self-efficacy

Abstract:

Teachers always play significant role in education, especially in teaching foreign language. In foreign language context, there are variety of factors that extremely impact the teachers' performance and efficiency. Three of these factors are burnout, self-efficacy and motivation. The purpose of this study was measuring these factors and understanding their relationship by applying quantitative method. Data collection was by using three questionnaires of Burnout test by Maslach, Motivation test by Soenens and Self-efficacy test by Bandura. Statistical analysis showed low level of burnout in Iranian EFL teachers, after doing correlation analysis; negative relationship was presented between burnout and motivation. It was cleared that motivation and its subscales ۳۶% could predict the teachers' burnout. In the next step the level of teachers' self-efficacy was presented by use of statistical analysis, and negative relationship between burnout and self-efficacy was another result that was found in this study. Also the role of self-efficacy and its subscales as a burnout predictor for teachers' burnout was about ۳۸%
