Abstract:
Nuclear energy has received renewed attention during energy transition in recent years. This study aims to investigate whether nuclear power can increase carbon emissions or not. In order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between nuclear power and carbon dioxide emissions, this study also discusses theimpact of coal, oil, natural gas, and renewable energy on carbon dioxide emissions of selected developing countries for the time period ۱۹۸۹- ۲۰۲۱. In this research, to evaluate the impact of nuclear energy on carbon dioxide emissions, panel vector auto regression method was used in Eviews software. The findings show that both nuclear energy and renewable energy can reduce the emission of carbon dioxide, and the increase in coal consumption increases the emission of carbon dioxide. In addition, nuclear energy has a better effect in curbing carbon dioxide emissions in some countries than renewable energy. Therefore, assuming safety, nuclear energy should be seriously considered and developed again.
