Abstract:

Much research has shown that Al nanoparticles can significantly improve the combustion properties of some energetic materials, especially for propulsionapplications. But there is no sufficient research for its application on internal combustion engines. For this reason, an experimental study is conducted by using alumina nanoparticles as additive in diesel fuel in the presence of 2% by volume surfactant. A compression ignition engine was used to evaluate the engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics of the blend. Also an ultrasonic processor was used for improving the stability of fuel blend followed by. The results indicate that adding alumina nanoparticles to diesel fuel, has significantly effect on engine performance and brake specific fuel consumption as compared to diesel fuel. In addition, it was found that NOx, HC and CO emissions were lower than that of diesel fuel. As a result, aluminiumoxide nanoparticles can be added to diesel fuel to reduce the brake specific fuel consumption, exhaust emissions and improve the engine performance by improving combustion process.
