Abstract:

Electrical power systems face a continuing growth of load demand, which is going closer and closer to the capability of the system. In order to enhance system capability, since installing new facilities is nowadays difficult, it can be useful to critically and carefully re-examine the limits the capability itself depends on. In the paper, the limiting conditions on current carrying capability of electrical lines are examined; a new method, based on recursive parameter estimation, is proposed for on-line computation of line capacity, which is up-to-dated as heat exchange conditions vary. Test on simulated data are made and method performance is analysed.
