Detection of Aeolian Vibrations and Associated Conductor Damage and Design of Appropriate Damping Systems for Single and Bundled Overhead Transmission Lines

The paper describes methods for the detection of aeolian vibrations and associated conductor damage. Instrumentation for short-term and long-term measurements of aeolian vibrations is introduced and the benefits of the two approaches are discussed. Typical aeolian vibration conductor damage is then presented and methods for its detection are outlined. A seperate section is devoted to the repair of damaged conductors. The last part presents analytical tools for the design of damping systems for single and bundled conductors.
