Abstract:

Error correction has played an important role in the development of L2 acquisition. Severalstudies have been conducted to investigate the effectiveness of error correction and correctivefeedback. Two major classification of CF types, namely, implicit and explicit have beenproposed by scholars. Lyster and Ranta (1997) classified CF types into six taxonomies whichhave been the basis of many research studies. It has been the most influential taxonomy in thearea of corrective feedback. This study aims at investigating the effectiveness of CF on L2development and also to find the most effective CF type, namely, explicit and implicit and theireffects on learners’ uptake by reviewing thirty research articles. The results revealed that CF hashad positive effects on L2 development and also explicit CF has been superior to implicit CF andhas resulted in more uptake by learners.
