Abstract:

This study examined the existence of any possible relationship between second language (L2)learning expectancies and language learning strategy use among Iranian EFL learners. Asmany as 118 lower-intermediate EFL learners participated in the study. Participants` Englishlanguage learning expectancy was measured using a questionnaire developed by theresearchers. Strategy Use Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) (Oxford, 1990) was used togather data about participants` strategy use. The correlational analysis of the results indicatedsignificant relations between English language learning expectancies, overall strategy use, andindividual strategy categories. The findings highlight the crucial role of positive moodconstructs in the process of L2 learning. Implications for foreign language teachers andpractitioners are discussed.
