Abstract:

The present study examined the effect of teaching short stories as a creative method on Iranian EFL learners’ reading comprehension improvement. To do so, 18 male and female students, with the age range of 18 to 28, studying reading skill at an English language institute in Ilam, Iran, participated in the study. Based on their performance in the pretest, i.e. The Oxford Placement Test (Allan, 1999), they were divided into two homogeneous groups. The students in the experimental group were taught through creative method based on some selected short stories while those in the control group received the traditional method of teaching reading comprehension based on a conventional book for reading skill. Finalizing the treatment, the researchers gave the final exam and examined the results through t-test statistics. The results showed that the students in the experimental group outperformed those in the control group
