Abstract:

An offshore oil and gas platform processes its feed stream to some specifications before exporting to export pipelines or shuttle tankers. Required processes consume power during lifetime of the platform not constantly. The amount of this power demand is variant depended on some measures such as feed properties, the export pipeline requirements, etc. variant being of this demand results in off-design running condition in majority of the lifetime for onboard machinery. Such a situation causes inefficient performance on the platform which will also increase greenhouse gas emission production rates onboard. Offshore production platforms have a major share in total greenhouse gas emission production rates for oil and gas producing countries in recent years, even equal to the share of all other manufacturing industries or road traffic segment. This study compares the amount of power demand for common processes on board a generic offshore platform considering different feed specifications and introduces an innovative green power supply method for offshore oil and gas platforms in order to reduce associated greenhouse gas emissions in Persian Gulf
