Abstract:

The Qheshm island has various and different environmental features because of being an island and a free zoon. It has very fragile and important ecosystems. Most famous of all is the Avicennium forest biosphere reserves adding to its significance. During the past yeard the island has been severly affected by lack of proper landuse planning disregard of land capability and base ecological resources have had adverse environmental impacts. proper planning for the future sustainable development seen necessary. The free zone characteristic make the island more vulnerable specially by demographic change caused by miration and immigration. In this research with a systemic approach different zoning methods have been examined and fllowing a description of actual environmental features the island landscape has been evaluated for its development capability and variose types. Based of these evaluation land resources are classified using systemic analysis and results are according to islands administration divisions to be reporteed practical as a planning process application. Capability analysis and other feasibility studies show thet the Qheshm island has unidentified resources and potencial for development but also report a lack of planning in its past develpment. Dimention of protection important in future development because of the existing biosphere resources and fragile ecosystems. This constraint is hanged into an apportunty by proper landuse planning for tourist development. The island has little potential for industrial and agricultural development. Finally an integrated monitoring system as well as an environmental management system(EMS) would be necessry for sustainability of future development.
