Abstract:

In this work we described a purification procedure for multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) produced via catalytic decomposition of methane with Ni/Mo/MgO as a catalyst. The process was included a mild acid treatment step, centrifugation/sonication and filtration step. Most of impurities such as amorphous carbon (AC), metal catalyst particles, carbon nanoparticle(CNP) were removed from MWCNT product. Raman spectroscopy and thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to evaluate the purification process of MWCNTs. Our results show that this method has very good ability to remove of impurities in the MWCNT sample without using of thermal techniques and strong acidic treatment.
