The Effect of Differences Related to Cognitive Styles on Basketball Free-Throw Shooting Performance

Background & Objective: The aim of the present study is to see the effect of differences related to cognitive styles on basketball free-throw shooting performance in beginners. Material &Methods: In this semi-experimental study 56 students of Tehran university faculty of physical education, aged 18 to 25, participated voluntarily and availably. For measuring cognitive style Vikin’s latent forms test, and for gathering data related to basketball free-throw shooting, Robins’ basketball throw test were used. Concerning statistical analysis, Lo’s test for equality of variances, one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) for comparing groups and Tukey’s post hoc test were used for identifying the location of differences among groups. Data analysis was carried out by means of SPSS software, version 23. Result: The results showed that the independent participants have a better background performance compared to dependent ones. Conclusion: Therefore selecting individuals independent of background for performing closed skills in closed environments is suggested.
