Abstract:
Silver sillago, Sillago sihama is distributed in all coasts of the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea in Iran and have commercial value in area. 54 specimens of silver sillago assessed for length and width of sagittal otolith and TL and size of fish. T-test revealed no significance difference (p> 0.05) between left and right otolith characters. Range of Total length and weight of specimens were 10.72-29.06 cm and 7.0-77.6 gr. linear regression relationship with high coefficient of determination appeared for length and width of otoliths with tl of fish specimens. Relationships were TL (mm)=Otolith length (mm) × 23.8 – 18.9 & TL (mm)=Otolith width (mm) × 23.96 – 20.74, Coefficient determinations of relationships were 0.882 and 0.811 respectively. Also exponential relationship between fish weight and otolith size was appeared as fish weight (gr) = 0.061 × otolith length3.181 with coefficient determination of 0.905. result showed that estimation of Silver sillago size and weight with good accuracy is possible by using otoliths’s size parameters and these data could be useful in study of ecology, population dynamic .and resources of this species
