Abstract:

Novolac-silica hybrid aerogel (NSA) filled epoxy nanocomposites were prepared with different contents of NSA (0.5-5 wt. %) to investigate the effect of filler on the thermal properties of epoxy nanocomposites. Araldite LY556 as epoxy resin, HY917 as hardener and DY070 as an imidazole accelerator were used. The FT-IR showed that the crosslinking reaction of epoxy resin was successfully performed in the presence of novolac-silica hybrid aerogels. The effects of nanoparticles on the thermal properties of epoxy resin were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). Results of TG-DTG and DSC analyses showed the content of NSA particles affect the degradation and final weight loss. The addition of NSA slightly improves thermal stability of epoxy
