Abstract:

Planar Laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) and Conductivity methods used to measure mixingtimes in aerated and unaerated tank stirred with dual Rushton impeller. Theoretical an experimental comparisons between these two types of methodology are presented in this paper. TheConductivity method is cheap and easy to use but affecting the local flow pattern and are likely toprovide local measurements which are influenced by the region of scrutiny. In modern PLIF metho despite the accuracy, in order to maximize the quantitativeness of the results correction for severalerror sources must be made, also measuring and determination of the degree of homogeneity isexpensive and need to some specific apparatus and not available in every laboratory systems. Theobjective of this paper is to find conditions that simple conductivity method with acceptableaccuracy could be used and empirical correlations are derived based on experimental data.
