Abstract:
Smart /self-healing micro - capsulated inhibitor incorporates in epoxy primer before painting on a steel surface sas evaluated for its corrosion protection effectiveness on exposure to ASTMD5804 electrolyte in laboratory environment . Microcapsules were mixed in the epoxy resin with mechanical or sonication method , and then applying by the brush on the steel surface for the electrochemical testing . The results indicate that the active components in ruptured embedded inhibitor microscapsules were released in to an inflicte . describe primer and topcoat film on steel surface on exposure to inhibit development of an electrochimecal cell. Undamaged surface film of the test and control specimens exposed in the environments demonstrated excellent corrosion-inhibition performance as experimental data. The results obtained on the performance of self - healing inhibitors should provide an understanding of thr fundamental material - property relationships of smart inhibitor coating . And , thus , should facilitate the development of optimized paint compositions in order to extend the useful servece life of steel - infrastructure applications.
