Abstract:
Extremophiles are microorganisms which can live and reproduce in extreme conditions although their mesophilic counterparts could not live. Enzymes derived from extremophiles have distinctive features makes them unique in certain industrial applications. Their metabolism and biological functions are firmly related to their unique structure. This review gives an overview of the biotechnological significance of extremophiles and also discuss about of the discovery, isolation and application of these enzymes. This study highlights the fact that extremophiles can be used as a useful tool for design and expression of proteins with novel properties.
