Abstract:

In this study, the sedimentation of a single elliptical particle in a narrow box filled with non-Newtonian fluid is discussed using the Itnmersed Boundary—Lattice Boltzmann method. The freefalling of a single circular particle near wall is used as a validation test. Results are in excellent agreement with previous studies in this field. The power-law non-Newtonian model due to its ability to show shear-tltituting, Newtonian and shear-thickening properties is used as the non-Nevvtonian fluid model. In order to study the falling manner, three various cases have been considered. The simulation results have demonstrated that differences among cases are apparent. Power-law index (n) has a noticeable effect on the translational velocity and angular velocity of falling elliptic. The proposed method can be developed for different shapes of particle and also different non—Newtonian models. The results of this study are usable for understanding the interaction between non- circular particles and non-Newtonian power-law fluid flows.
